Law firm Gordons appoints new finance directior
Leeds and Bradford law firm Gordons has appointed a new director of finance and administration following the retirement of David Gale who was with the firm for eight years.
Alan Davies has joined Gordons after 22 years at venture capital company YFM Group, the last 15 years of which he was group finance director. During his time at YFM, Alan oversaw the development of the Group’s financial systems and business support services from managing £20m of Yorkshire-focused investment funds to £300m of managed funds operating across the UK.
In his new position, Alan will have overall responsibility for Gordons’ finance, human resources, marketing, information technology and office services functions. Over the past month, he has worked closely with David Gale to ensure the safe transition of responsibilities before his retirement.
Commenting on his appointment, Alan said: “Gordons is one of the Yorkshire legal scene’s genuine success stories. The firm’s continued growth is down to the professionalism of its people and a strong reputation for delivering straightforward, results-driven advice.
“The opportunity to work with such a progressive and ambitious firm was extremely attractive and I am looking forward to further developing Gordons’ infrastructure to enable its continued advancement.”
Originally from Shrewsbury, Alan holds a BA Hons in accounting and finance from Leeds Metropolitan University and is CIMA qualified. Married with two daughters, he lives in Tadcaster and is a keen cricketer representing Thorner Mexborough Cricket Club.
Paul Ayre, Gordons’ managing partner, said: “We are very pleased to have secured Alan’s services and would also like to thank David for his contribution to Gordons’ development during his time with the firm.
“Alan’s experience at YFM makes him ideally suited for us as we pursue our controlled growth strategy. We intend to continue to act as an entrepreneurial organisation with Alan driving the performance of our infrastructure. This will provide the foundation for us to develop the practice by enabling our lawyers to concentrate their efforts on the needs of our clients.”
