Law firm advises on sale of landmark Barnsley hotel
Barnsley’s award-winning four star Brooklands Hotel – the home of the Barnsley Chop – has been sold for an undisclosed sum to New Barnsley Hotels.
The sale was handled on behalf of the shareholders of Brooklands Hotel by corporate partner Peter Barton of Leeds and Bradford law firm Gordons.
Brooklands Hotel opened in 2001 and was the first four star hotel in Barnsley. In 2005, it won the prestigious Yorkshire Tourist Board’s hotel of the year award.
Commenting on the sale, Brooklands Hotel director Jason Brook said: “We are immensely proud of the hotel business that we built. Brooklands Hotel now has an established regional, national and international reputation as an excellent location and its new owners are committed to creating even further success.
“This disposal completes our strategy of acquiring, redeveloping and re-establishing Brooklands Hotel as Barnsley’s premier hotel facility. The sale of the business was carried out efficiently thanks to some excellent work by Gordons. Throughout the process Peter Barton and his team provided practical, straightforward advice that allowed us to progress the deal at a pace that was agreeable to both parties.”
Established in Bradford in 1844, Gordons opened its Leeds office in 2000. The firm’s turnover for the last financial year was £18.7m – an increase of seven per cent from the previous year’s total – and marks the fifth successive year of growth for the firm. Peter Barton said: “Brooklands Hotel is a landmark destination in Barnsley and a hugely popular facility. The sale is ideal for all concerned as it ensures the hotel’s continued success under new ownership.“
